A pocket-sized FPGA handheld. FunnyPlaying, the Chinese retro hardware maker, put the FPGB Mini on sale in its own store on 18 September 2026, with no advance notice. The device doesn't emulate Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges in software. It runs them on an FPGA (a programmable chip that rebuilds the circuit at the hardware level). The store price is 69 dollars; the regular price is 89 dollars.

The screen is a 2.98-inch IPS panel. Its resolution is 800×720, exactly five times the Game Boy's 160×144, so the picture isn't smeared by in-between values. The 1800 mAh battery promises 4-6 hours of play. There's also a real-time clock on a CR2032 cell for clock-based games like Pokémon Gold/Silver, a microSD slot for cards up to 32 GB, and link play over USB-C. For link play you'll need a separate USB-C to DB9 adapter.

The first batch was only 20 units, and it sold out in about 10 minutes. The company said there were "still some issues" and announced it would sell another 30-50 units after China's National Day holiday. At the end of October the page still shows the device as sold out, with no new date. Retro Dodo, which wrote up its early impressions, counted two faults: rumble cartridges don't seat fully in the slot, and the power switch now and then doesn't slide all the way home. There's also said to be an emulator that loads ROMs from microSD; the manufacturer hasn't confirmed this.
