Swift 6.4 comes with Xcode 27. Apple added Xcode 27 (27A266a) to the releases list on its developer site on 14 September 2026. For old projects you can still pick the Swift 6, 5, 4.2 and 4 language modes. The bundled SDKs cover iOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and DriverKit 27.

To install it you need macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later. Secondary sources say this is the first Xcode that runs only on Macs with Apple silicon. Apple's support table doesn't say so outright. The oldest supported targets have gone up too; the floor is now macOS 12 and watchOS 9.

Coding intelligence (the AI layer that helps you while you write code) works with models from Anthropic, Google and OpenAI. Any agent that supports the Agent Client Protocol can hook into it as well. Device Hub is a new home base for testing on real devices and in the simulator. If the blogs quoting the release notes are right, the ld64 linker is gone, and PreviewProvider is deprecated in favour of #Preview. Anyone about to open an old project should give the notes a once-over before building.

Xcode 27.1 followed on 15 October, and the 27.2 RC (release candidate) arrived on 19 October. None of the Apple pages we looked at gives a price. For those of you on an Intel Mac, this release is where the road forks.
