Surface Laptop Ultra: the first Surface on Nvidia's Arm chip

There's no Intel in this Surface, and no AMD either. Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra is the company's first laptop built on Nvidia's RTX Spark (N1X) Arm platform, and it runs Windows 11 on Arm. The chip is a familiar face of sorts: it's the Windows version of the GB10, which Nvidia has been using since 2025 in its Linux-based DGX Spark mini PCs.

On Microsoft's US store the price starts at $2,599.99. According to the press, the top configuration is $5,899.99. Pre-orders opened on 7 October at the event in San Francisco, and sales started on 16 October, as the press reports. The chip has up to 20 Grace CPU cores, Blackwell graphics and up to 128 GB of soldered unified memory (the processor and the graphics share the same RAM). The SSD can be swapped, and the screen is 15 inches at 120 Hz. The 18-core chip in the base model is a version with a few cores switched off.

Now for the measurements. Tom's Guide and PCWorld got about 10 hours of battery life in web and office tests; Microsoft says 12 hours. Two of StorageReview's units cut power and shut down under a load that pushed every core, and neither Microsoft nor Nvidia has explained why. There's no Turkish price yet. For anyone who wants to run AI models locally, it's a tempting machine. Mind you, you'll have to put up with Arm's compatibility problems and with these shutdowns.
