Toki returns to the Mega Drive, the Neo Geo and the Amiga AGA

Another old arcade game is heading back to old machines. On 1 October 2026 the New Old Pixels studio announced that it had signed a licensing deal with Microids. Microids is a French publisher founded in 1985, and it owns the rights to Toki. The game in question is Toki, TAD Corporation's 1989 arcade game. Then on 12 October three official ports were announced: Sega Mega Drive, SNK Neo Geo and Amiga AGA (the chipset of the A1200 and the A4000).

All three versions are planned as complete physical releases that run on original hardware. The studio says it will stay as close to the arcade original as it can in gameplay, visuals and music. Mind you, for now that is a promise; nothing has been shown yet. No release date and no price have been announced. Nobody has said what comes in the box or what media the game will ship on. Whether the AGA version will need fast RAM or an accelerator card is also unknown. The studio also says it is looking at other classic machines with Motorola 68000 and Zilog Z80 processors, but it hasn't named any.

These ports have nothing to do with the remake Microids put out in 2018. Toki already had an OCS version on the Amiga. The real question is this: how close will AGA's wider palette get to the arcade? We'll only know once the game is out.
